Reclaiming Our Zeal
We’ve all endured many unanticipated challenges in the past couple of years. It’s understandable that the complications we’ve experienced are depleting our natural zeal. Our energy levels and our enthusiasm for simple everyday experiences can wane without us recognizing that we may be sliding into a funk.
Have you been feeling “less like yourself”? Perhaps hearing from someone who cares about you, that you have transformed into someone less charming or patient than your former self? Did their comment cause you to take a deeper look at yourself and how you have been showing up?
If so, this would be a good time to take stock and decide what you want to do about regaining your sense of balance and zeal in a world that still seems to be out of balance. Consider how to make your “reentry” as work and more events are happening in person.
The road to regaining our sense of balance and reclaiming our “mojo” begins with self-awareness. We need to notice and name our feelings and thoughts, and then decide when and how to act.
Taking action, looks like making room for activities that bring us pleasure and/or boost our self-esteem. Activities that bring us joy or are meaningful to us might include reading, finding a new hobby, cooking something special, practicing yoga or even some alone time to just sit and think and self-reflect.
Spending time outdoors, listening to favorite music, volunteering, helping a neighbor, planning a getaway, participating in a civic club, or supporting a cause that aligns with personal values are all activities that can help you recapture your zeal.
Block out time for regenerative activities, even if it’s only 30 minutes a day.
As we make time for the activities we care about, those activities connect and reconnect us with people that share our interests.
Monitor your momentum to keep yourself on track. And while you’re at it, give yourself some credit for taking positive steps toward revitalizing your zeal.
